Carnival 11 - 20 July 2025 "Tell Us a Story"
We really hope that you will be able to take part in our Carnival, the theme this year is "Tell Us A Story".
Assembly:
People entering the procession to assemble in Down Road ready for the judging, which will start at 2.45 pm.
The procession will start at approximately 3.45 pm from the top of Down Road, so that the front of the procession enters Whitchurch Road at 4.00 pm.
We have arranged for portable toilets to be located in Down Road to help the needy!
Please note that the route will not accommodate large articulated vehicles, but if you have any queries or concerns, please email activities@tavistocklions.org.uk.
Judging:
Judging will take place in Down Road. We have decided that the previous Classes have become a bit outdated and confusing. So for 2025 there will be a "Best in Procession" and up to four "highly commended" awards. The judges will look for imaginative entries that have clearly involved a lot of work and follow the theme. They will have a spread of awards for both larger and smaller entries. We hope that this will be fairer for all participants.
Please ensure that your Entry is clearly identified and can be seen from both sides of the road. This is a big plus for the spectators as they view the procession passing by.
The judging will start at 2.45 pm. Judges will travel up Down Road in a minibus along the procession and make an initial assessment, then they will drive back down the procession to confirm their judgement. They will then return to make the awards.
Everyone will receive a certificate of appreciation for taking part.
Specific prize money is not being awarded, but the practice of giving each entrant a donation towards their organisation/charity is being retained. Trade organisations are asked to nominate a local charity of their choice.
Dispersal:
The procession ends when it travels down Market Road behind the Pannier Market. Please pull over to the right hand side of Market Road and disembark to the pavement. This will allow other entrants to continue along on the left hand side.
The Market precinct will be open for you to make your way safely to be met by parents or friends.
Whether you win an award or not, we appreciate all the huge efforts that many people have made to make this a great Carnival Parade. We hope that you enjoy the experience - it’s about having fun.
Our aim continues to be to make the procession a Fun Event for the people taking part, and for the people watching. Please encourage as many people as possible to come along, and visit us at on Facebook (www.facebook.com/LionsClubOfTavistock). We appreciate your enthusiastic support and we are looking forward to a great event.
