Carnival Procession raises £2,414.72 - and counting!
A massive THANK YOU to everyone for their participation in and support of Tavistock Carnival Procession on 20 July. The weather just about held off and we were able to enjoy a wonderful parade with some truly imaginative floats! The collection buckets on the day - and the SumUp machines - raised £2,414.72, all of which will go to local charities. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we did! Thank you Tavistock for being there. Here are just a few pictures taken on the day.
Hugely successful Carnival in Tavistock!
What a Carnival it's been! The Carnival trolley draw at Morrisons, which was won by Brenda Hinson, raised £653 for local charities. We then had the Tavi Fringe event on the evening of 11 July, continuing into 12 July, when the performers excelled in spite of the heat, and the town was really buzzing!
Despite the hot weather - which prompted the postponement of the dog show - a large number of people were in the Meadows on Sunday for the Lions' Fun Day on 13 July. The many charity stalls did a roaring trade, as did the ladies running the Lions' tea tent and the Lions on their BBQ, which this year was supplemented by a tasty paella provided by Lion Paul Rimmer and wife Jill. The Young Ambassadors ran a treasure hunt around the site and a name the Lion competition and during the afternoon each were presented with a gift, on behalf of the Club, by Town Mayor Steve Hipsey. There were demonstrations of circus skills and tag rugby and a very traditional Punch and Judy, which was a great hit with the children. Lamerton Primary School ran the duck race on the canal with duck number 5 crossing the finishing line first winning its owner £50. Musical entertainment during the afternoon was provided by duo Jack of All Trades and Blowzone. All in all, a great afternoon enjoyed by everybody there!
During the rest of the week, we enjoyed the peace posters, the pavement artists, the concert in the church, the town relays, a petanque tournament, an open mic at the Trout 'n' Tipple, the traders' skittles evening, the fun run, the classic cars in Guildhall Square, and all week the Drawn to the Valley art exhibition in Butchers' Hall.
The Lions Club of Tavistock would like to thank each and every person who participated or who came along to support all these events. All the money raised will go to local charities.
The Lions are enjoying a well-earned rest after the excitement of Carnival, but fear not, we will be back! You'll see us at Goose Fair on 8 October, there will be Fireworks on 1 November at the Football Club, then we have the Trees of Light and Dickensian events to prepare for.
