This Year: From Mid November This was started in 1999 when the club agreed with Tavistock Town Council to erect a large Christmas Tree on the front of the Town Hall which would be covered in lights sponsored by members of the public in memory of departed love ones.
Over £35,000 has been collected todate. It has become so popular that the number of trees has been increased to three to cater for all the light bulbs.
In 2008, the beneficiaries of the monies collected from the Trees of Light were Children's Hospice South West and Tavistock Palliative Care. Once again, thanks to the generous donations, the Club was able to donate in excess of £4,000 to these causes. The donations for the 2009 Trees of Light will be made during early 2010.
With the Lions Club of Tavistock now being a registered charity, Gift Aid became applicable from the 2009 Trees of Light onwards. Further details will appear in the event's publicity of this change, which will help us raise even more for our nominated charities!
