January 2011: Rice Appeal a resounding success!
On the 29th & 30th January 2011, in conjunction with the Operation Sunshine organisation, the Club organised a 'Rice Appeal'. The aim of the appeal was to collect rice to be added to a container of clothes, bedding, materials and tools being shipped to Zimbabwe on 12th February 2011. In cooperation with the local branch of Morrisons, the Club and volunteers from Operation Sunshine encouraged people doing their shopping to purchase a kilo bag of rice and donate it on their way back out. During the two days that the appeal took place, 1,825 kilos of rice, 500 grams of pasta, 5 tins of tomatoes and 54 tins of tuna had been collected! In addition, £241 had been collected (which is being used to buy additional supplies of tuna) from the public to add to the £100 donated by the Lions Club of Tavistock. This fantastic result would not have been possible without the superb support of Morrisons, so an enormous 'thank you' to them. Seen here with members of the Lions are representatives of Morrisons and Operation Sunshine.
